This past weekend, California DECA held their State Conference in San Diego and invited high schools across Northern and Southern California to participate. Presentation DECA was one of the hundreds of schools who competed and were recognized for their members‘ successful events.

The conference was from March 3-6 at the Town and Country Resort Hotel in San Diego.

The Opening Session included the keynote speaker, Jaycob Curlee, a semi-finalist on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” He performed three songs and spoke to the high school students highlighting the major points that helped him with his success: family, dreams, and also faith.DECA_group_lowres

California DECA held daily workshops, which all DECA members were encouraged to attend. One was hosted by Men’s Wearhouse, one of DECA’s most prominent sponsors, and informed students with tips for preparing for an interview and how to make the best first impression. They also advised students how to build a resume and portray oneself positively through appearance and social media platforms.

They also offered a networking exhibit each day called Downtown DECA, where members had the opportunity to network and interact with DECA leaders, partners, and exhibitors.

Since this was the only conference Pres attended this year, members were extremely motivated to succeed in their events and determined to make a name for Pres DECA. Members have been attending workshops every Tuesday and Thursday as early as January and their hard work definitely paid off.

Pres DECA members were exceptional at States this year and were recognized for their hard work and dedication in preparation for this conference:

  •             Junior Sarah Liggett was a finalist in her roleplay event, Hotel and Lodging Management.
  •             Junior Isabel Wu was congratulated for her high test score in her event, Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making.
  •             Senior Ananya Narurkar was recognized for being a finalist in two events: Sports & Entertainment Promotion Plan and Sports & Entertainment Marketing. She was also congratulated for placing second overall in her test.
  •             Seniors Karina Dandia and Riya Shah placed fourth in their role play event, Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making, and are off to Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the International Career Development Conference.

After all their hard work in their competition, Pres DECA members went to San Diego’s oceanfront amusement park, Belmont Park in Mission Bay, for chapter bonding with laser tag, mini golf, roller coasters, bumper cars, and more. Members were also able to attend DECA’s formal dance, where they got to celebrate their success and make memorable experiences on their last night in San Diego.

With all the member’s hard work and commitment to this chapter, DECA is definitely on their way to making an unforgettable name for Pres. Their determination will undoubtedly bring them much success in the future! One last congratulations to all participants who competed in their events!
