I currently work at the Starbucks on Foxworthy and Cherry which is the Starbucks down the street from Presentation. There are a lot of positives and negatives to working at Starbucks.
Before I begin on the pros of working at a Starbucks I would like to clarify that most of these are based on a specific location, and thus do not apply to Starbucks, as a whole. There are a lot of different locations and they all function a little differently.
One major positive is that I have the opportunity to work at a rather diverse Starbucks. There are a lot of people of color, and women. The people are kind, funny and know how to do their job well.
We also got a new manager named Barnaby, who is amazing and has changed a lot at the store. He has improved the training program, because of which the new baristas are better equipped for the job .
Additionally, there are a lot of benefits pertaining to the food and drinks. For instance, all employees get free drinks thirty minutes before and after their shift, get a 30% discount on drinks when not working. We also receive one free food item when working.
Most of the customers are great. You are able to build strong relationships with your regular customers, and have great conversations while making their drinks.
There are a lot of drinks on our menu, and more than we display in our store. It does take a while to memorize how to make the drinks but once you get the base down it is easy to remember.
Although there are a lot of positives, there are a lot of negatives. However, if you choose to work at Starbucks, do not let these affect your decision.
Starbucks is a relatively popular place, so there are rushes when we get busy. Some examples of this are when people are going to work or school, after we get off school and some points on the weekends.
There are a few rude people that demand their drink be remade. Most people are kind, and are fine if there is a mistake but will ask you to remake it if necessary.
I would like to address the fact that I am an introvert. Anyone who knows me is aware I’m not particularly comfortable with people I do not know very well.
It is a drain to be around so many people at times but being able to make drinks for people makes up for it. There are a lot of positives and negatives to working at Starbucks.
Working at Starbucks has allowed me to meet a lot of new people and talk to people who are not my own age.
