Recently in the heart of Willow Glen, two new competing restaurants have opened just across the street from each other: Stumpy’s Burgers Fries and Dogs and Main Street Burgers. Both have a very similar menu, so how can you choose between one or the other? Luckily, we’ve got the inside scoop on who really wins the “burger smackdown.”

Stumpy’s is not only known for burgers, but its delicious hot dogs as well. We tried both the cheeseburger, the “Rocky Noodle” chili cheese dog, and of course fries.  The classic cheeseburger had cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. And the hot dog had chili, cheese, onions, and mustard.

The cheeseburger patty was hot, mouthwateringly juicy and the condiments were fresh, but the bun was a little bit too big, leaving too much bread taste and not enough of the delicious inside.  Overall, a pretty good burger, but the star of the show was the chili cheese dog. It was also hot, the chili was savory, and the melted cheese on top with onions was the the perfect touch. The fries were a little bit salty, but nevertheless the perfect combination with these two entrees.

Many people have already experienced Main Street Burger’s food due to its location in Los Gatos, but now that they have opened one in Willow Glen we can all enjoy their scrumptious meals. Here, I also tried the cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate milkshake.

The burger patty was flawlessly cooked, juicy and perfectly pink throughout, the cheddar cheese was melted on top and the condiments were crisp. The bread was fresh and it was the perfect ratio of meat to bread. The french fries were the ideal crispy fried on the outside and the soft potato on the inside with just a dash of salt. Finally, the milkshake was thick, chocolatey, utterly scrumptious and was the perfect sweet touch to this savory meal.

The burger at Stumpy’s was around $6.75, the hot dog was $5.75, and the french fries were $2.25. The burger at Main St. Burgers was $6.50, the french fries $2.75, and the milkshake was $6. Both restaurants offered affordable pricing.

I think it’s safe to say that Main Street Burgers is the winner of the burger smackdown. But, if you happen to be a hot dog fan then try out Stumpy’s. Both restaurants produce amazing food and it is exciting that we have both now in the heart of Willow Glen!
