This month, Netflix is releasing a total of 25 original shows and movies, both new and returning. Here are some of the best original series premiering this month.
Chewing Gum, season 2 (4/4)
The hilarious misadventures of a London girl looking for love. Tracey’s (Michaela Coel) quest, with the help of her friends, is a journey of self-discovery, albeit a bit of a disaster at times. Every face and quip she makes will leave you in stitches. With only twelve short episodes, you’ll easily be able to get through this series and left wanting more.
The Get Down: Part 2 (4/7)
Writer/director Baz Luhrmann’s (Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby) musical drama returns for its second installment. The Get Down chronicles the mythical birth of hip hop in the 1970s South Bronx. With enthralling plots, catchy songs, and a diverse cast, The Get Down is a must watch. Don’t let this show pass you by.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, season 1 (4/14)
Revived by a record-breaking Kickstarter, the cult favorite is back. Jonah Ray stars as the new host with a gang of robots, who will review (and heckle) campy, B-list movies as you watch along with them.
Bill Nye Saves the World, season 1 (4/21)
Bill Nye returns with a new talk show where he discusses some of the biggest topics in science today. With new celebrity guests every episode, everyone’s favorite science guy will debunk myths surrounding science and perform experiments to prove his point. While geared towards an older audience, you’ll still love watching Bill explain, and save, the world.
Bonus on Hulu:
The Handmaid’s Tale, season 1 (4/26)
Based on the classic 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is being seen by many as an eerie indicator of the times. Set in a dystopian future where women have no autonomy over their own bodies, the show follows one woman’s struggle against her oppressive regime. Watch and decide for yourself how much of it applies to our own world.
